Five minutes with… Anne Curtis, star of The Gifted

After the showing of “The Gifted”, the amazing Anne Curtis and the bright director Chris Martinez (“There are some scenes as homage to Tarantino”, he said) were intercepted in the “Giovanni da Udine” ‘s press-room. With kindness and professionalism they talked about their movie’s messages.

“People don’t change”: what do you think about this line from the film?

I don’t agree with that attitude. I think that people can change, maybe for good or maybe for the worst. Your life’s experiences are always going to change you.

Do you agree with your character Zoe when she says “Don’t waste your intelligence because of a man”?

Oh yes, you have to use it for your own benefit!

Aica (played by Cristine Reyes) always pushes Zoe to do better. Why are girls never satisfied with other gilrs?

I don’t know why, but in my opinion there is always a rivalry between girls. You can find different reasons: better looks, better hair, a better boyfriend. I  guess that is part of the beauty of the film because the message is to be content with who you are, with how you look. You have to feel comfortable in your own shoes: that’s the movie’s meaning. I also think that is the same for men. Have you ever seen two boys fighting for the same girl? It’s a war!

Can you describe the relationship between the Aica and Zoe characters?

Their connection is the movie’s key. At the end of the day, love and friendship are the only things that count. These characters show this perfectly – that special need people have for each other.

What does “love” mean to you?

What a deep question! I think it’s just the art of giving, it’s very simple.
